Hong Kong Day Two

We awoke early and took the Star Ferry to Hong Kong where we found little escape from highend fashion - but that never stops us. Despite wide open spaces beneath every office and shopping building, the public zoo seemed to be one of the few refuges for senior exercise. Between primate, rodent, bird, and botony exhibits an army of geriatrics trained who'd easily be allowed to enter and invade any country under a "visiting my grandchildren" cover story.

We then escaped the warriors by riding the Peak Tram above the city. Steep mountains crowd Hong Kong along its coast while only the wealthiest have found a means to develop the thick forested slopes.  A 3km hike took us all the way around the peak for hazy views of endless highrises and docked ships.

We returned to the world shopping mecca called the Landmark and ate in its fourth floor cuisines of the world deli with all the other expatriots. The third floor houses ThreeSixty, a very Whole Foods type grocer where we found Bob's Red Mill grains for sale straight from our own town of Portland.

The subway took us out to one of the antique malls where I did my best to say no to carrying any of the excellent clocks for sale throughout the rest of our trip. From a carriage clock actually set in a horse drawn carriage to one with a waterwheel of ball bearings that drops a few every minute, I loathed the carryon luggage possibilities.

We found our way back to Kowloon and through one of the night markets and called it a night.
